Chex Mix II

Today's butterfly is brought to you by the creators in Amy's 3rd grade class.   When I went into Amy's class I gave them each a handful of Chex Mix and they each made their own creations.  Some were butterflies, people, monsters, scenery and names.  It was great fun spending time in their class and since I took a photo of each creation I thought a photo collage would be a nice tribute to their creativity!!

Glow PC-Fly

This is my radioactively charged butterfly. Of course, I produced it within the safety of my pc so no one will be harmed.  Ooh, what fun you can have on the pc.  Some of these are new features found in Microsoft Word 2010 are really cool!!

Butterfly in Black and White

I'm loving this butterfly project. Today I saw this art medium and I thought "hey, I should try this out". And I did. I used a precision cutting knife to slice shapes into card stock paper. Each shape is bent up to show the construction paper below for contrast.

Before, I would see cool things and not really register a reaction. They were enjoyable to look at but that was it. Now I want to roll up my sleeves and try most things!

Rubber Band Man

I always knew there was a reason why I kept the rubber bands from the mail delivery but I didn't realize this was it! I have to say I'm very fortunate that there is a bounty of "collections", of all varieties. It's not likely that I'll run out of material any time soon.

Butterfly ABC's

Today's butterfly is made with letters and numbers. Can you guess which ones?

Hint: there are two letters and two numbers.

Rainbow Butterfly

I love the crafts of our childhood. They are so simple yet I think they allow you to be expressive. I drew an outline of the butterfly with glue then wrapped small squares of tissue around the end of a pencil. I plopped it down on the glue and presto, you have a picture starting to form!
Amy used the excess tissue squares to make her own butterfly!

Tooly the Butterfly

My daughter's friend suggested that I make a butterfly with tools! I've used tools for a lot of projects but this is a first.

Let me know if you need to borrow anything!

Smiley

One of my 3rd grade friends suggested that I make one with a smiley face. What a happy butterfly! Put on your happy face today!

BottleCap Butterfly

I never realized how many collections my kids had until I started this project. They have all offered to let me use their collections as long as I pick them up. They don't want any extra chores! Who can blame them!

Anime Butterfly

My first attempt anima drawing! My niece is awesome at this style of drawing and has won awards. It's a Japanese style of animated drawing. I'll be looking for some pointers next time she visits! I've been told it's all in the eyes and mouth.

Grandma's Birthday Butterfly

Grandma's birthday is today. So I used one of her favorite flowers for my butterfly. She has a huge display of tulips and daffodils every year in her front yard.

Happy Birthday Mom! I love you!

Frying Pan Fred

This one is for my nephew Nicholas who gave me the idea to use frying pans. I also took the name Fred from him as well. I think I remember a very good friend of his named Fred!

This was a fun one! Thank you.

Tron Butterfly

Today's butterfly reminded me of the movie Tron. This one is made from a straw kit. It comes with several shapes that you can connect together to make a unique straw each time you use it.

I don't think you can drink from this one or will it fly!! Back to the drawing board!

My Impression of a Glass Butterfly

There is a butterfly that has these transparent wings. I believe it's called a Glass Butterfly. I've been dreaming about one for a few weeks. As I took off the the plastic from one of our windows I thought I could try to re-shrink it around some wire.

It was a little challenging deciding how to get a photo of it!

O'Minty the Butterfly

I bet that you didn't know that Spearmint Leaves stick together when you cut them. I didn't either until today!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Most Cooperative Butterfly

Have you ever tried to take photos of animals or insects?  It can be really hard.   It seems that the subject always moves just as I'm hitting the button to take the photo.  Well today I was fortunate to get a photo of the ever elusive "3rd Grader" Butterfly.   Wow, was I impressed at the colors and how still it was while I took several shots to get just the right picture.....

A big thank you to all the 3rd graders and their awesome teachers!!   We had a great time talking about blogs and generally just being creative.

The kids even made their own creations which I'm going to use to make a photograph collage butterfly.   You'll be seeing it posted very soon.

Cozy butterfly

Mmmm, flannel sheets. Megan suggested that I make today's butterfly out of sheets. What better way to make use of the flannel sheets, since they are soon to be pack away until next winter. Sleep tight Mr. Snowman!

Uno, Dos, Tres

I had to try a "hand" at making one from a deck of cards. We have about three decks of UNO cards, so why not? Plenty of cards to arrange so it was easy.

Funny thing is that when I get an idea to use a certain material for the butterfly the end product doesn't always come out like I expect. As I see how it lays or leans against something, I change my mind.

I do wish I could remember to build the larger ones on the floor. It's really hard holding the camera high enough to take a photo!

Isn't a hot steamy shower great? Perfect for window art! I'm not sure how the picture is going to come out, it was a challenge to get the right angle.

Amy was my flower artist again.

Mr Shine

Mr Shine is a distant relative of Mr Clean. Okay, actually I'm tired after a late night of bingo with a table full of second grade boys. It's hard being creative right now!

Bendie Fly

The kids get a few bendable sticks at a local restaurant (nice change of pace from crayons) with their menus. It keeps them occupied for days.

Of course I had to sign a document before I could borrow them! I would recommend playing with them if you get a chance.

Amy made the flower for me.

Guess What I Used

I'm hoping that the picture can tell a thousand words. Can you guess what I used for today's butterfly? I think she needs a refill!

Butterfly Origami

So I tried the origami again. There is a You Tube video with very easy instructions. I love the color of origami papers (Michaels Craft Store).

Gnomeo and JulietAFly

Amy named these two butterflies. The food coloring bottles have the pointy tops like the Gnome hats. So I had to make one of each color.

They are both made with white chocolate chips and food color, however I added a couple drops of oil to the blue one. It made the chocolate much smoother.

I got the Butterfly Blues

Yes, I like blue. I really wanted to paint today and this blue dude always pops into my brain. The brilliant blue of the Blue Morph is so awesome.

Mmm Mmm Good

Amy had friends for a sleepover so pancakes are fun for making shapes. We also had Teddy bears and some hearts.

Sit and Spin a Yarn

I hadn't realized how many knitting and crocheting projects I've done in pink and green.  Seems strange, neither is my favorite color.  Of course, I haven't knit that many things for myself -- I have a "Mommy Do List" a mile long of who wants what.....

Adam wants a pair of slippers
Megan wants me to make her a butterfly to sew on her jeans
Amy wants me to add tassels and ear flaps to her hat
Evan wants something but doesn't know what yet

Butterfly Chain Letter

Please share this butterfly with 10 of your friends and you will have good luck the rest of of the day.

Just kidding... I really dislike chain letters, I was just trying to see if I could remember how to do this. It took a few tries but I got it. The trick is to fold the paper like an accordion and then cut half of your intended picture.

Butterfly in the Moon

So you thought there was a man in the moon. No way, it's the butterfly in the moon.

Or it could be watercolor on coffee filter!

Book Origami?

Don't try this at home.... Unless of course you hate the book!

I love books so it was really hard to pick one for this project but it was fun. I wasn't really sure how I was going to do it or how it was going to come out but I just kept folding until I saw a pattern.
